The site pulled in all the data from a SQL database containing all the category, book and author information. Netstarter worked closely with Murdoch Books internal IT team to design the database structure.

The website used a custom .NET CMS tool for authors to update the news, events and page content on the website. A custom built Flash rotator was developed as an engaging tool to showcase the latest novels on the homepage. All book data was supplied to the Flash feature using JSON instead of XML due to it's lightweight code structure. AJAX was used across the website to minimise unnecessary page loading when browsing the catalogue.
