Blogging for Blogging Sake?
A blog can serve different purposes and a good blogging strategy is a vital tool when trying to increase the online visibility of your site.

Blogs can help provide informative content for regular/new users to your site. It allows a company to express their thoughts and opinions on matters related to their industry and to their services and products. This kind of engagement can help improve customer loyalty and hopefully lead to people informing their work colleagues/friends about your site as a place to go to for relevant content.

Having this kind of user behaviour will allow you to create and implement social-engaging strategies. Look to engage with these users and lead them to other online assets you might have- Facebook, Twitter, emails, newsletters etc. I am going to focus on the
SEO benefits of having a strong blog and what factors need to be considered when implementing such a strategy. So what is the rationale behind a blog from a SEO perspective?

Frequently updated (approx twice a week if possible) content will lead to Google visiting your site more often along with users. Finding the correct tone is important- especially when writing for a niche audience. You also need to make sure it has relevant keywords but need to avoid keyword stuffing as it will start getting perceived as spam content. Make sure relevant keywords are used where possible but in a way which allows the blog to flow seamlessly.

The blog should be informative but don’t be shy to give your opinion on certain matters and to express where you stand on certain areas. If people agree with you then that is great but if not then that’s not a bad thing. There is a good chance that readers will comment and the engagement begins. It’s also important to make sure your content is newsworthy and try to make it as ‘current affairs’ as possible for that particular sector.

Blogging can also help improve your back-link portfolio and should be integrated with any link building strategy you have in mind. People will link to it from their website and this also contributes to your site’s page rank and authority. The more sites linking will not only mean higher credibility obtained by your domain but also other sources of relevant traffic to your website.

As with everything SEO utilisation of the correct technology is a must and from an SEO perspective you can’t go wrong with Word Press. If it’s good enough for SEOmoz its good enough for you.

Blog optimisation done correctly can help leverage your brand/site in many different ways. Contact Netstarter to speak to a consultant within the search team for more information and ideas on how this could work best for you.
