Tutoring: A Remedy For Falling Grades
Every parent’s wish is to see their child doing well in school. However, what needs to be realised here is that not all students can perform equally well in school. As it is with most students, one might not be good in all the subjects. A student getting high grades in one subject but may be struggling with another. The fact is other than a rare few, most students need extra help with their courses.
Many high school and university students need tutoring to help them get through difficult courses. A personal tutor with specialized knowledge and tutoring skill has the ability to identify your child’s strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. They can then customize a style of teaching in a manner that is best understood by the student, helping the student to perform better. A personal tutor can boost your child’s self confidence when dealing with difficult subjects.
Tutors work with your child in a one on one environment. Unlike in a classroom environment where the teacher has to give equal attention to all students in the class, a tutor is focussed only on the learning abilities and development of just one student. This helps the student absorb more information about the relevant subject.
There are two types of tutors. The first are the home tutors. Home tutors usually come to your home bringing the tools of their trade with them. Such an arrangement would be ideal if it is nearly impossible for you to leave your home for some reason or another. Some home tutors who are specialized in teaching minors can also help “baby sit” your child. This is great if you need to go some place leaving behind your kids, you will have the peace of mind knowing that your kids are not only being looked after but they are being helped with their school work as well while you are away.
The most commonly available tutors are the ones whom you have to go and meet. The good thing about tutors like these is they have all their teaching equipment at their place of work. This will give your child access to many learning aids not available with home tutors.
When looking for a tutor you can either pick one from a tutoring company or from many individuals who offer tutoring services. Companies offer more tutors, and it will be easier for you to choose the person who is best for your child’s need. However, individuals can be very good tutors too. Most individual tutors have been school or university teachers in their past, which means they are well trained in tutoring and are very knowledgeable in the subjects they teach.
How ever much a genius or knowledgeable a tutor actually is will only be self serving if they can’t part with that knowledge in a way that is understood by the student. An extremely important thing to look for when looking for a tutor is his personality and his ability to relate to the student. Remember if your child finds it hard to get along with his tutor it will be a lot harder for him to learn from him.
