Your guide to Protein Supplements
Protein Powders, bars and shakes
Bodybuilders and general gym goers find that protein supplements such as whey protein isolate & whey protein concentrate are by far the most valuable supplement to assist in building quality muscle. Protein supplements are available in a variety of forms - from protein powders that require blending or mixing with a liquid such as milk or water to protein bars and ready-to-drink shakes.
Whey Protein Isolate Vs Whey Protein Concentrate
Not all protein offers the same benefit. The most popular type is whey protein which is derived from milk. During the process of turning milk into cheese, whey protein is separated out. Whey protein definately has the highest value in providing amino acids, which result in building and retaining muscle tissue. Whey protein isolate is the highest yield of protein as it is derived from milk and thus can be absorbed into the body easiest but costs more. Whey protein concentrate has anywhere between 29% and 89% protein depending upon the product. As the protein level in whey protein concentrate decreases the amounts of fat and/or lactose usually increase.
